Easy & Delicious Gluten Free Easter Puppy Chow {Dye-Free}
This is one of my favorite snacks because it reminds me of so many great snacking memories and holidays; it’s one of the easiest things to make in a pinch! And despite the mess caused by all the powdered sugar-it’s all worth it!
I have yet again taken another childhood favorite recipe and converted it to meet my families current dietary needs. Simply swap out the Easter M&Ms for some dye-free chocolate candies and you have a delicious gluten-free, dye-free holiday treat. I hope you like it!
With only a handful of super delicious ingredients, you can whip up a batch of Puppy Chow really quickly. So what are we waiting for, lets get to the recipe!
Ingredients
One of my favorite things about this recipe is that it only calls for a handful of ingredients and chances are, you have most of them already!
- 10 Cups GF Chex Cereal
- 1 1/2 Cup Seasonal Dye-Free Candies-I used Unreal Candy Coated Milk Chocolates. You can find them at most grocery stores, Amazon or here.o
- 3/4 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
- 1 1/2 Cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 1/4 Cup Unsalted Butter
- 2 TBSP Oil (I typically use avocado or refined coconut)
- 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract-Watkins Vanilla is my absolute favorite-you can taste the difference.
- 3 Cups Powdered Sugar (or more if you wish!)
How To Make Puppy Chow
- Place Ingredients in large mixing bowl. To a large mixing bowl, add the Chex Cereal and half (3/4 Cup) of the dye-free chocolate candies. Set aside.
- Melt Ingredients. To a large microwave safe bowl, add the chocolate chips, peanut butter, butter and oil.
- Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir and microwave again in 15-second intervals until melted and smooth (mine took about a minute). Then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Combine with cereal. Pour the melted peanut butter mixture over the cereal and carefully stir to coat.
- Add the powdered sugar. I prefer to transfer the cereal and chocolate mixture to a large freezer bag to evenly coat in the powdered sugar but you can also slowly pour the powdered sugar into the bowl and gently mix until everything is coated in sugar. Whichever method you prefer! Then pour the mixture onto a baking sheet to cool.
- Transfer to serving bowl & enjoy! Transfer the mixture into a serving bowl and add the remaining chocolate candy. Stir to combine. Serve or store in an airtight container for up to a week.
